Yoga FAQ

WHAT IF I’M NOT FLEXIBLE?

This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. Yoga is not about how flexible you are, but about strengthening your body and spine in all directions. All that matters is that you try, and you’ll reap the rewards.

IS IT A CARDIOVASCULAR WORKOUT AND CAN I LOSE WEIGHT?

No matter your level of fitness is, you will find hot yoga challenging. Each posture combines flexibility, strength and balance to work your whole body from your bones to your skin. With persistence, patience and dedication, you can lose inches and develop muscle tone and strength that might never come from other forms of exercise.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING AND WEAR TO CLASS?

You will need a yoga mat, bottle of water, and a towel for your mat. If you plan on showering after class bring another towel. Towels, water bottles and mats are all available for rental or purchase. Men typically wear shorts and a light t-shirt or just shorts. Women wear anything from longer exercise pants to shorts and a light top. Dress like you are going to a tropical climate and plan on sweating.

WHY IS THE ROOM HEATED?

The room is heated to prevent injury, warm the muscles, and allow for a deeper release within the body. Sweat is good! Toxins and poisons are flushed out of your body through each practice. Fresh air is always circulating and humidity is raised for ideal conditioning. The heat will soon become your friend and you’ll adjust accordingly.

WHICH CLASS TYPE SHOULD I TRY FIRST?

Although all classes are suited for everyone, the Traditional Hot Yoga is the best introduction to hot yoga.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FRom MY FIRST CLASS?

Classes are open to all levels. We are an eco-friendly studio that greets all practitioners with a sense of community, diversity and integrity. We encourage you to pace yourself and have fun. The rewards of hot yoga happen just by showing and staying in the heated room.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE HOT YOGA?

If you come 1-2 times a week, we promise you’ll feel good. At 3-4 times a week, a new awareness develops and the physical, mental and spiritual changes happen more rapidly. As yoga author Baron Baptiste says, “For life-changing results practice 5-6 times a week.” That’s a lot of yoga though, and not always realistic for everyone’s schedule. Just come whenever you can.

IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASSES?

Yes, the minimum age is 15 years old, and we will need a written consent from a parent or guardian if you are under 18.

I’VE NEVER CYCLED BEFORE – IS THAT OKAY?

Yes, everyone is welcome! Please arrive at least 15 minutes early and an experienced instructor will help you set up your bike. Although we do ride together as one, you can adjust the tension on your bike to a level that is appropriate for you.

DOESN’T CYCLING JUST USE LEG MUSCLES?

While your legs will get a workout, our classes are designed to target an even more important muscle – the heart. Spinning is a low-impact aerobic exercise perfect for improving cardiovascular fitness. We also work the core and arm muscles by adding in lightly choreographed upper body movements and by using hand weights.
